Beach 2 Battleship Water Support

It's that time again!

Time to help hundreds of swimmers on their quest to become Ironmen again. (And truly, if you're a woman doing Ironman-you're an Ironman.) When you see cars driving around town with stickers that say 140.6 on them, you know you're trailing a crazy person. Crazy awesome. Who wants to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and then run a marathon (26.2 miles) all in one day? I am in awe of these atheletes.

The water support crew is on the water at 6 am, off by 10 or 11, home, showered, fed, napped, and back up in time to cheer on the runners downtown in the evening. I always think "While I've been eating and sleeping, they have NEVER STOPPED MOVING."

We are seeking all paddlers in the Wilmington area to assist with Water Support for this event.

Details:

When: Saturday, October 20

Where: Meet at public parking lot across from Oceanic Restaurant. Put in at public access on Banks Channel.

What to Wear: Wear layers. It has been pretty cold the last two years. It can be foggy and dark when we first get in, so bring a light. Also, bring a whistle.

What to Do: We'll explain that, but basically we line the course so that the swimmers can see where to go. We are also available if a swimmer needs help because it is easier for us to get into a pack of hundreds of swimmers than it is for a boat.

RSVP: If you want to come, it would be helpful if you could email katie@distressedmullet.com or john@distressedmullet.com
