Where do you SUP the most?
I live in Mooresville NC so Lake Davidson and Lake Norman are both within 10-15 minutes away.

What board do you ride?
I cruise with family and friends on a Riviera Voyage 12'6" and race on a Hovie Comet 12'6"

What paddle do you use?
I have a KeNalu Wiki and absolutely love it.

Have you changed boards/paddles since you started? If so, why?
My wife and I bought Riviera Voyagers when we got into SUP about a year and a half ago and then the race bug  hit me and I picked up the Hovie Comet (Thank you Mullet Classifieds!). We switched paddles about six months into it. She has a Quickblade Kahana. The right paddle makes such a difference

Where would you most like to SUP?
This summer we were able to paddle in Kauai. The scenery was amazing but my dream is to go back and do some downwind runs off of Maui.

Best piece of SUP advice you've gotten?
Help with my paddling technique. My wife has better technique and has done a lot to help me with my paddle stroke.

Weirdest thing that's happened to you while SUPping?
My wife and I did a full moon paddle at Mountain Island lake. Left out about 830pm and got back about midnight. It was a beautiful summer night and the moon was so bright. Everything just looked so cool. Not too weird but just one of those things that I never imagines that we would do.

Favorite SUP nutrition? (During races/ during a long haul)
Cliff Bars (white chocolate macadamia nut!)

Goals for 2014
Get my kids out on the water more. I have twin teenagers and they are not always crazy about hanging out with Mom and Dad even if it is on the water.

Favorite post-paddle nosh (snack/beer/recovery drink)
Cliff Bar Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein bar and Beer (Stella Artois!). I know it's weird.

Your favorite non-paddle thing to do.
I have been an avid cyclist for over 20 years so riding bikes (mountain or road). I also love to backpack.

Where you were born and where you live now?
Born in Winston Salem NC and now live in Mooresville NC.

What is your occupation?
I have been a jet mechanic for about 30 years now.

Who do you SUP with most often?
My wife and I go out 2-3 time a week spring thru fall. It's our way of maintaining sanity (remember the twin teenagers I mentioned!)

What piece of SUP gear do you wish someone would invent?
I would invent a paddle blade with an on the fly blade size adjustment so going into the wind you could select a smaller blade size and then when it was time to downwind you could crank it up to a big blade.

What's your biggest challenge with SUP?
Not obsessing! I really love the sport and have the type of personality that if I am in to something it's 110 percent. I gotta remember to chill.

What is your proudest moment in a SUP race or event?
A sprint finish a local race. I had been chasing the person in front of me for a long, long way and pulled even with about 50 yards to go. We were both digging so hard and I had my head down the last bit (not recommended!) and almost took out the dock and all the spectators on it as I fell onto my board crossing the finish line. I left nothing on the water at that race. If I give my all I am happy no matter where I finish. I gave my all that day.

Tell us about the best friend(s) you made through SUP.
Man where do I start?  The Charlotte SUP scene is so full of really cool people.

What's your best SUP travel tip?
Always, always, always double check the cinch straps on you board before you drive away.

Ask a question that you want Mullet Nation to answer

OK Mullet Nation Three questions for thee:
  1. What is your quest?
  2. What is your favorite color?
  3. If you were 5'10 150 pounds with good balance what would be your pick of a 14' flat water race board?
