From the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office:

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to do checks of the shoreline along Okaloosa Island in hopes of finding a Fort Walton Beach man who disappeared while paddleboarding yesterday morning behind the Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island.

The paddleboard washed ashore and a woman who had seen a man on it moments earlier called 9-1-1 around 10:38 a.m.

The missing man is believed to be a 51-year old John Andrew Frye.

John was described as a “paddleboard enthusiast and extremely fit.”

This board above is reportedly the board that Jon was paddling as it washed ashore, reported by the Northwest Florida Daily News. It looks like there’s a leash string, and maybe a leash, but it’s hard to tell.

According to the article in the Northwest Florida Daily News:

“Lorri Romero, of Owasso, Oklahoma, was on the beach at the time. She said she saw a man on a stand-up paddle board riding waves in the higher than average surf.

‘I bent down to get shells or something. Then looked up. He was gone and his surf board was upside down,’ Romero said.

She called 911.

A crowd of people gathered on the beach, some praying with outstretched hands while the Okaloosa Island Fire Department, Coast Guard and Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office searched for the man with binoculars, boats and personal watercraft.”
