Boom! Just like That Chattajack Registration is Closed
You snooze, you lose. Especially when it comes to getting a bib for the 31 (really 32) mile race down the Tennessee River Gorge.
Registration for the epic race, sometimes called the Inland Molokai to Oahu, opened at midnight EDT this morning and within an hour, over 500 of the 600 or so spots were taken. Race director Ben Friberg reported on Facebook that the race was sold in in just under eight hours, several hours quicker than last year.
“Yeah… (last year it was) like 10 or 12 hrs but the total number of registrants was lower. This is a different race. I’m pumped beyond words!” He said on the race’s Facebook site. “We’re blown away with everyone’s stoke and enthusiasm for this race, and we can’t wait to see everyone in October!!”
Who closed out the list? It was Lora Shepherd from Pleasant Shade, TN and she’ll be paddling Surfski.
A waiting list is set up for those who are desperate to suffer with the rest of us and will take a spot if someone drops out.
We are not surprised that sign up for this race go as quickly as they do….heck, even the process of staying up late or setting an alarm to register then watching all the Facebook exclamation of joy and terror which follow is an event in and of itself! It is the people, the camaraderie, the attention to detail by Ben and Kim Friberg and the way all racers are treated that makes this race the epitome of what the paddling ohana and spirit is all about. No wonder so many people do what ever it takes to get in and to race it year after year,
Well done, Ben and Kim, well done! And we can’t wait to see you in October too!
